Clever Essex

Cultural arts organisation Metal had a bold ambition: to
promote and celebrate the amazing history of Essex. We
helped them by designing the campaign Clever Essex.
Working with groups of local school children, Metal
identified a number of famous figures from Essex history.
We commissioned illustrator Robert Ball to bring these
figures to life in his own unique style. The campaign
launch, at the Southend-on-Sea Village Green festival,
attracted thousands of proud Essex revellers, led by
campaign figurehead Phil Jupitus. The result: clear proof
that there is another way in Essex.

The campaign was launched
to 20,000 people at the
Village Green festival.

A further 228,000 people were
reached through BBC Radio
coverage and local street DJs.

The accompanying educational
programme launched across
schools in Essex.
